The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) is a fast growing worldwide movement involving the highest ideals of sports competition, social and cultural fellowship, and 85 years of proud traditions.

The ICSD stages Summer and Winter Deaflympics sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and World Deaf Championships for thousands of athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators. As the games have grown in size, they have also grown in importance as the one event more than any other to build cohesion and a common identity in the worldwide deaf community of 70 million people.

The Summer Deaflympics are among the largest sports events in the world. More than 2,400 athletes are joined by thousands of officials, coaches, relatives, and tens of thousands of spectators and attract the interest of millions around the world. Approximately 300 athletes participate in the Winter Deaflympics which are among the world’s largest winter sports events.

Each Summer or Winter Deaflympics is a national and international media event covered by newspapers, radio and TV in general and more extensively in the many national and international media outlets for the deaf community. Their websites are focal points with the result boards drawing particularly strong interest during and after the games.

No other event offers such an opportunity on an international basis to target and reach the global deaf community and the millions of relatives and colleagues - with specialized consumer needs, while at the same time building a reputation for excellent corporate and social citizenship.

Deaf people and their relatives are highly motivated consumers and internet users with wide ranging interests, including specialized communications and computer equipment and services, among many others.

The Summer and Winter Deaflympics therefore provide an excellent window of branding and promotional opportunity at the high-visibility events through the increasing media interest and on the internet.
