The 365-day Countdown to the 2017 Summer Deaflympics will begin on 18 June

Samsun, Turkey - July 18th will mark the beginning of the 365-day countdown to the start of the 23th Summer Deaflympics Samsun 2017. Events dedicated to this occasion will be held throughout the city all day long.

The Bati park will open its doors from 18:00 to 22:00.  Samsun citizens, ICSD delegations, ICSD Technical Directors, athletes, and International guests will be in attendance for the rally.  The event will include various cultural performances and contests.

The highlight of the event will be the launch of the 2017 Summer Deaflympics countdown clock. The clock will be counting down the time to the 2017 Deaflympics Opening Ceremony, which is to take place on 18 July 2017. This clock will be synchronised with the World Time Server. Let us point out that it is an established tradition in all capitals of major international events to install the countdown clock prior to the event. This clock will become a Deaflympics art installation for the Samsun.

Samsun Governor Ibrahim Sahin was quoted saying earlier: “Samsun is a sport city. We are building new sports facilities (in advance for the 2017 Deaflympics)”.

In the meantime, Samsun will host the three (3) World Deaf Championships as test events which will be held in various locations across Samsun city. The World Deaf Table Tennis Championships will take place from 18 July through 24 July.  The World Deaf Martial Arts and Beach Volleyball Championships will also occur during 18 July through 24 July.  The Championships will come to a wrap during the final games on July 24th. Further information for the major sports events will be coming soon.
