Italy Declares Candidature for the 2019 Winter Deaflympics

The ICSD is pleased to release today the declaration of candidature by the Federazione Sport Sordi Italia (FSSI) for the 2019 Winter Deaflympics.  

On 27 June 2018, they had a meeting of the government where all have made the decision to support a host to 2019 Winter Deaflympics. The ICSD has received formal letter from the FSSI that Italy is ready to organize the Winter Deaflympics 2019. The ICSD will continue to work in close collaboration with FSSI to ratification of the Agreement in September 2018.

The first Deaflympics, known as the "International Silent Games", were held in the summer of 1924 in Paris, and later on these Deaf Games were held every four years with a break during the World War Two. The Winter Deaflympics were first held in Austria in 1949. From 1924 to the present day, the ICSD has organized 23 Summer and 17 Winter Deaflympics in a year following the year of the Olympic Games.
