Caxias do Sul prepares to host the Summer Deaflympics in 2022

The movement of organizers, delegations and professionals involved in holding the 24th Edition of the Summer Deaflympics, which will take place in Caxias do Sul, begins to intensify. Following the Olympic calendar, the games were scheduled to take place in December of this year. year, but due to the pandemic, they were postponed to the first half of May 2022. In 24 editions, this is the first time that a city in Latin America will host the event.

The Deaflympics is one of the most important sporting events in the world, which dates back to 1924, when the first edition was held. This week, the Local Organizing Committee is receiving a visit from Briton Martin Bogard, technical director of sports at ICSD (International Sports Committee for the Deaf) and also technical director of Badminton, one of the sports modalities present in the Deaflympics.

Bogard is visiting the facilities planned to host more than 20 sports that will be part of the games. In addition, the CEO of the Local Organizing Committee, Richard Ewald, made a presentation to the British on how the planning is on all fronts, so that he can take this information to the International Committee on Sports for the Deaf.

Ewald highlights the importance of the presence of the Sports Technical Director in the city: “Bogard's presence here is extremely important to share his experience and bring more ideas to the event. I am convinced that he will return safe and positively impressed with the structure that is being prepared to host the Deaflympics.”

The Deaflympics is an international multi-sport event, organized by the International Committee on Sports for the Deaf. For the 24th Summer edition, it is expected to receive 6,500 people, including deaf athletes and technical commissions and teams from more than 90 countries.
