Vysoké Tatry is the winter centre in the heart of Europe and is the smallest high mountain in the northern part of a rather young country – Slovakia. The country is known around the world as the host of the 1970 World Nordic Championship. Since that time, Slovakia has been involved in the scene of many FIS World Cup competitions. Slovakia is proud of the fact that in 2011 Vysoké Tatry will welcome the best deaf athletes in winter sports on this planet. The Vysoké Tatry Organizing Committee is working hard to be prepared for this mega event. Currently under preparation is the reconstruction of the several sport stadiums including renovation to new infrastructures in some venues.

Preliminary entries received on 15 January 2010, there will be over 700 athletes and offcials to attend the Games. The sports will offer at the 17th Winter Deaflympics are held in the disciplines of Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Ice Hockey, and Snowboard.
